The purpose of Harvard for Free the Slaves is threefold: a) to raise awareness regarding the issues of modern-day slavery, b) to generate funds to help support grassroots organizations worldwide that are directly involved with the liberation and rehabilitation process of modern-day slaves, and c) to generate student-driven activism that will bridge the community of practice and the community of knowledge. This organization intends to align with the goals established by the national organization, Free the Slaves, in terms of raising awareness and funds by providing accurate information and accessible opportunities to all Harvard College undergraduates as well as other members of the Harvard and greater Boston communities so that they may exercise this new-found knowledge in a positive way. Additionally, this organization seeks to bring together all those within the Harvard community and beyond by strengthening their commitment to eradicate modern-day slavery through the distribution of information and fundraising. This organization intends to carry out this mission through general meetings, lectures, seminars, publications, research, and other educational activities for the Harvard student body and faculty as well as the surrounding Boston community.
